Packaging and Packaging Waste Proposal: Commission extends deadline for feedback

The European Commission presented on 30 November, the draft Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on packaging and packaging waste, amending Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 and Directive (EU) 2019/904, and repealing Directive 94/62/EC.

A feedback period on the proposal was opened on 01 December 2022 and has now been extended to 13 March 2023 and will continue to be extended every day until the adopted proposal is available in all EU languages.

The key aim of the new proposal is to ensure that all packaging is recyclable by 2030.

Retail packaging that is planned to be phased-out includes, under Annex V of the Proposed Regulation “Single-use plastic grouped packaging” and “Single use packaging for condiments, preserves, sauces, coffee creamer, sugar, and seasoning in HORECA sector” and

The proposal on packaging and packaging waste will now be considered by the European Parliament and the Council, in the ordinary legislative procedure.
